Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention
Despite much research we are not getting any closer to reducing the incidence of Autism or ASD, which is spiraling upwards the world over. However there is now a much better understanding of the effect ASD has on the learning processes in the brain, and that it is important to stimulate learning early to enable the brain to adjust while it is still flexible. The best results are achieved with the youngest children.
The process of teaching needs to be intensive, and individualized and based on a thorough understanding of how learning takes place. ABA is the science of learning, applied to each specific individual. It is solidly supported by research.
As the child grows, the brain becomes increasingly more resistant to change and the benefits of therapy will be less, though still significant. For best results, intervention therapy needs to be early,intensive and behavioural.
